The Chile earthquake struck on 27th February 2010 at 03:34 local time (14:34 Malaysian time), rating the magnitude of 8.8 which classified "Great" means can cause serious damage in areas several hundred kilometers across. It lasted for about 3 minutes in which cities experienced the strongest shaking (destructive). Tremors were felt in many Argentine cities and southern Peru, tsunami warnings were issued across Pacific coastal countries.
The 8.8M earthquake recorded the seventh strongest in history since the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake of 9.3M but was far more forceful than the 7.0M earthquake in Haiti in January 2010.
